About Chad

Chad is an Energy Engineer in the Department of Energy & Engineering within Facilities Services. He joined the Facilities Services department in November 2019 and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University. He is a licensed professional mechanical engineer in the state of California and a LEED AP (Accredited Professional) as designated by the U.S. Green Building Council. He has served as mechanical engineer of record on a host of different work sites throughout his career beginning in 2004. 

Chad started out as a mechanical engineer with a local MEPS (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural) consulting firm named, at the time, TTG Engineers, Inc., now known as IMEG Corp. For almost 8 years he prepared construction documents including design of HVAC systems for commercial, residential, historic, educational, and healthcare facilities, while serving as mechanical engineer of record on a multitude of them. He excelled at performing utility and feasibility studies focused on energy analysis of the building sites and prepared all associated LEED and Title-24 compliance documentation and project specifications.

In 2011, Chad was asked to join a small group of a dozen field engineers with Southern California Edison to provide on-site engineering support at large governmental, commercial, industrial, water, and agriculture customer facilities making recommendations for technology solutions in support of Integrated Demand Side Management programs, including Energy Efficiency, Demand Response, and Distributed Generation. It was here where, for over 8 years, Chad was able to observe, analyze, and report on a myriad of mechanical and industrial machinery utilizing data gathered by installing portable power quality meters, flow meters, and various other measurement instruments as required.

His design background coupled with hands-on experience with such systems in operation was a perfect fit for joining the University of California at Riverside, where he is currently supporting the vision of modernizing the UCR campus utilizing engineered solutions for existing and new infrastructure in support of implementing today’s energy and sustainability goals under Director David Palacios’s mission to create a smart, resilient, energy efficient and sustainable campus for all.
